A Minimalist Artist Retreat
Route 66 Artist House is a 540 square meter private residence designed as both a home and a creative retreat for an artist, set within the quiet winter forest of Annupuri, Niseko. The house is conceived as a place where living and making art coexist naturally, with architecture that deliberately steps back to let the artwork take center stage.
At the heart of the house is a large gallery space, designed for both artistic production and exhibition. Generous ceiling heights and carefully controlled natural light create an ideal environment for working, displaying, and experiencing art. This central space is complemented by a spacious living area with a shared Japanese bath, three bedrooms, and two tatami rooms, offering a calm and contemplative living experience for both the artist and guests.

The overall design follows a modern minimalist approach, using a restrained palette of white surfaces, natural wood, and exposed concrete. This simplicity creates a quiet, neutral backdrop that enhances focus and allows the artwork to define the atmosphere. Large floor-to-ceiling windows frame the surrounding white birch forest, bringing in soft daylight and seasonal views of snow-covered trees, while blurring the boundary between interior and landscape.
Route 66 Artist House is designed as a serene and timeless retreat, where architecture, nature, and art exist in balance.
